Do you realize how expensive international adoption can be? Having already done it once, I know the costs and I have been learning about adoption financial aid options.

Federal Adoption Tax Credit:
This tax credit provides the adoptive parents with a dollar for dollar credit per child for expenses paid to adopt. Most of the adoption costs are returned to you through these federal tax credits. For the 2010 tax year, adoptive parents may take advantage of up to $13,170 in refundable tax credits to offset qualifying adoption expenses. The tax credit calculation can include adoption expenses, court fees, attorney fees and travel expenses.

Grants:
Grants are available to help parents offset the cost of international adoption. You will not be able to finance the whole adoption with grants, but every little bit helps bring you one step closer to your goal. Adoption agencies can provide a list of grant providers for amounts from $1000 to $7000. Some are seasonal and have requirements that need to be met prior to you being considered.

Gift Money:
Often friends and family members will give loved ones adopting personal loans or a monetary gift to assist with adoption costs. These can be offered for the de Vries' adoption through PayPal using the email address: catsnkids@suigeneris.net

Online Sales:
Our virtual yard sale will be ongoing. Donations of your unwanted electronics, furniture, movies, games, and what have you are now being accepted for us to sell. Some items will also be listed on eBay if they are easy to package up and ship.

And my Suigeneris Jewelry and Crafts are also available for purchase.

Fund Raising:
At some point we will be offering magazines, cookie dough and/or sandwich shop discount cards set up by a Fund Raising company specifically for raising money for adoption.

Help is out there! We won't let financing stand between us and adoption. Remember, where there's a will, there's a way!
